Block Printing
This is a soft linoleum block for printing. Think of this project like you are creating a stamp.
You will need to get a book from the library or one you own. You are going to illustrate the content of the book so you want to make sure it is a book you like and understand.
You cannot pick a book with pictures. This is you illustrating the content, not redrawing something someone else has done.

Draw out your illustration
- You must have the following:
- Foreground, mid and background
- A border, this is so the carving has a place to stop.
- Clean lines, the more complicated the drawing, the more complicated the carving.
Trace your block and draw the final draft on the paper. This is a piece of printer paper that I will give you.
Flip your final paper and use a graphite stick or a dark graphite pencil and fill the back of the paper.
Place the final draft on top of the linoleum, make sure it lines up with the square you traced.
Use a dull pencil, sharp pencils will pierce the paper.
If you wish to not do this part, you can freehand the drawing directly onto the linoleum.

Check to make sure the graphite is transferring but DO NOT remove the paper completely until the tracing is done.
Once you have transferred the drawing, go over the lines with a pen.
Place X's where you are going to carve
I changed drawings to something more intricate.

Use the thin liner tool to outline the project. Progress to bigger blades as needed for various effects.
Tool tips:
Never use the carving tool where you are carving towards your body, always carve away from yourself.
Do not place your hand in front of or in the path of the blades direction. If the blade slips, it will go into your hand and cause damage.
These are sharp objects that can hurt you so be careful and responsible!
